“Science City” at Adyghe State University

On February 8, the festival “Science City” dedicated to the Day of Russian Science took place at Adyghe State University. Apart from school children and teachers from the Republic of Adygea, the festival hosted school children and teachers from 10 regions in Krasnodar Territory.

The festival began with the opening ceremony in the Sports Palace “Yakub Koblev.” Alexander Naronin, prime-minister of the Republic of Adygea, Rashid Khunagov, rector of Adyghe State University, and representatives of all ASU departments greeted the guests.

After the opening ceremony, the school children and teachers could visit various stations in the university and learn about various disciplines that are offered at the university. The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science offered stations where students could learn about machine data, neural networks, random graphs, fractals, and how mathematics is connected to computer game programming. Students learned how to draw graphical abstracts, checked their knowledge in the game “Invasion,” went to the origami class, and solved puzzles. Also, they attended lectures by the leading research specialist of the Special Astrophysics Observatory of the Russian Academy of Science Oleg Verkhodanov and senior lecturer of the Higher School of Economics Boris Demeshev.
