NOVEMBER MATH EDUCATION PROGRAM AT THE EDUCATION CENTER “SIRIUS” NOVEMBER 1-24, 2018

November math education program at the education center “Sirius” is oriented towards the development of school students’ math and art skills. The program includes the following parts: Olympiad mathematics (the main part of the program), project and research work, popular lectures in mathematics and natural sciences, and lectures by leading researchers.

The main part of the program includes basic ideas and methods of math Olympiad (grade 7) and more advanced math Olympiad for Grades 8-11. The program is oriented towards teaching students various parts of math Olympiad depending on their level: algebra, geometry, combinatorics, and number theory. It is presupposed that students know well the school program of algebra and geometry.

The Head of the program is Daud Mamiy, PhD in Physics and Mathematics, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Adyghe State University, Deputy Head of the Caucasus Mathematical Center, member of the Jury for the Russian Math Olympiad for school children.

Research and methodological support and teachers are provided by:

– Regional School of Natural Sciences and Math (Republic of Adygea);

– Caucasus Mathematical Center at Adyghe State University.

Aims of the educational program:

  • Finding mathematically gifted children;
  • Developing math and art skills in school children;
  • Increasing general cultural and educational levels of program participants.

Goals of the educational program:

  • Development of math skills in school children;
  • Preparation of school children for participation in Math Olympiads of a higher level;
  • Popularization of math;
  • Formation of project and research work skills in the program participants;
  • Expansion of student knowledge in natural sciences and humanities;
  • Esthetical upbringing and development of art skills in the program participants.

As a result of the selection process, 200 school children (Grades 7-11) from 13 regions of Russia were invited to participate in the program. The participants will be divided based on their age and level of knowledge. The program in each group will be divided into four cycles, each lasting for four days. The number of hours for math olimpiads is 24 in each cycle.
