On September 19, the presentation of the Caucasus Mathematical Center of Adyghe State University took place in School #19 of Tuapse region.
The meeting brought together the CMC-affiliated faculty, representatives of the ministry of education of the Tuapse region, including the deputy head of the education department Olga Krapivina, school children and teachers of the Tuapse region, and cadets of the Maritime Tuapse Boarding School.
The deputy head of CMC, dean of the Faculty of mathematics and computer science of Adyghe State University Daud Mamiy talked about new opportunities for school children and students from the South of Russia which they now have due to the opening of the Center.
To demonstrate that mathematics can be exciting and it can be used in all spheres of our lives, the research head of the CMC Alexey Savvateev gave an example of the recent World Cup and talked how math can be used to predict the minimal number of goals a team has to score to advance to the next round.
Also, the leading researcher of the Special Astrophysics Observatory of the Russian Academy of Science Oleg Verkhodanov talked about the short history of the universe and how we use the data from astrophysics in our everyday lives. The lecture was so interesting that some children stayed after the official part was over to ask additional questions.
Also, the CMC staff and the representatives of the Tuapse education system discussed the opportunities for future collaboration.
