CAUCASUS MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD

On March 15-20, the IV International Olympiad “Caucasus Mathematical Olympiad” took place in Maykop. More than 140 mathematicians from all over the South of Russia and ten countries gathered participated in the Olympiad. This year, schoolchildren represent the following regions and countries:

The Caucasus Mathematical Olympiad was established in 2015 on the initiative of the dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of Adygea State University, the director of the Regional School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the deputy head of the ASU Caucasus Center of Mathematics D.Mamiy. This year the Olympiad was held in Maykop for the third time. The organizers of the Olympiad are the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Adygea, the Regional School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Caucasus Mathematical Center of the Adyghe State University. The Olympiad is held in Maykop thanks to the personal interest and support of the Head of the Republic of Adygea Murat Kumpilov. The Olympiad is financed annually by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Adygea. In 2019, the Olympiad was held using a grant from the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society provided by the Presidential Grants Foundation. Every year sponsorship support for the Olympiad is provided by ITV Axxon Soft.

The goal of the Olympiad is to create a cultural and educational space that unites regions of Southern Russia and countries of the Caucasus region and the Black Sea, to form and strengthen friendships among school children who are interested in Math from Russia and other countries.

The Olympiad consisted of two age leagues:

In 2019, mathematics from Russia, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, and Iran — members of the problem selection committees of the All-Russian Mathematical Olympiad, Bulgarian, Iranian, and Belgian Mathematical Olympiads — were included in the task committee of the Olympiad. The jury members include winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian Mathematical Olympiad, gold and silver medalists of the International Mathematical Olympiad, laureates of awards of the President and the Government of the Russian Federation, coaches of the Russian national team in mathematics, and mathematicians from Syria and Luxembourg.

During two rounds, young mathematicians solved problems and discussed their results together with the jury.

In addition to the competitive part, the program of the Olympiad included a diverse leisure program: games, the Adyghe dance club, a guitar evening, a disco, the Adyghe culture night, where participants tried Adyghe dishes. Participants visited the National Museum of the Republic of Adygea, the Cave of Nezhnaya and Pchelinaya.

On March 20, the closing ceremony of the Olympiad took place, where participants were awarded honorable mention certificates and diplomas for the first, second and third place in the senior and junior leagues.

Announcing the IV Caucasus Mathematical Olympiad closed, the Chairman of the Coordination Council D.К. Mamiy invited everyone to the 5th Olympiad, which will be held from March 13 to March 18, 2020.
