Adyghe State University Hosts Inaugural Summer School on Transforming Students into Future Mathematics Educators

News | 15 August 2025

The school participants included students majoring in mathematics, technology and education from 20 universities, representing 18 regions participating in the Vernadsky scientific and educational consortium.

The goal of the school, organized by Lomonosov Moscow State University and Adyghe State University, is to give students an idea of the different forms and technologies of organizing work to develop the mathematical abilities of schoolchildren.

The project for the creation of regional scientific and educational consortiums “Vernadsky” has been implemented since 2018 on the initiative of the rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy. One of the main objectives of the project is to increase the role of universities in the scientific, technological and socio-economic development of Russian regions.

In 2023, Adygea joined the Vernadsky scientific and educational consortium, with the Adyghe State University becoming the project’s supporting university in the region. It is one of the recognized centers of mathematical education and implements a number of unique mathematical projects: the All-Russian shift “Young Mathematician” at the Orlyonok All-Russian Children’s Center, the November Mathematical Program at the Sirius Educational Center, the International Caucasian Mathematical Olympiad, the South-Russian Mathematical Olympiad “Assara” for girls, the Summer Mathematical School in Adygea, the student school “Modern Combinatorics and Game Theory”, which are attended by schoolchildren and students from 68 regions of Russia and 17 countries.

As part of the Priority 2030 program, the university has created a laboratory for technologies for teaching mathematical ideas, which is engaged in research in the field of developing mathematical abilities of children with special educational needs, developing educational modules on Olympiad mathematics for schoolchildren and additional professional education programs for teachers. The professional retraining program “Mathematical Talent and Mathematical Education”, developed jointly with NTU “Sirius”, is being implemented. In partnership with the Shkolkovo online platform, a new bachelor’s degree educational program “Mathematical Education” was launched, teaching technologies for creating educational products in the field of mathematics.

The educational program of the Summer School for students of the Vernadsky Consortium, which will operate from August 14 to 20 at the educational and production base of the ASU “Gornaya Legenda”, includes lectures, practical classes and master classes.

During the week, 30 students of the school will undergo training in compiling and checking assignments for Olympiads and competitions, organizing mathematical projects, psychological aspects of work and organizing extracurricular activities aimed at maintaining the mental and physical health of schoolchildren. The topics of the classes will also include information technology, artificial intelligence, information resources in teaching mathematics.

Classes with students will be conducted by leading teachers and popularizers of mathematics in Russia, in particular, the rector of ASU Daud Mamiy, the scientific director of the Caucasus Mathematical Center of ASU, the director of the Phystech School of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science of MIPT Andrey Raigorodsky, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor of ASU Alexey Savvateev, the head of the laboratory for the popularization and propaganda of mathematics at the Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, senior researcher of the Caucasus Mathematical Center of ASU Nikolay Andreev, the head of the laboratory for teaching technologies of mathematical ideas at ASU, the head coach of the Russian team at the International School Olympiad in Mathematics Kirill Sukhov and the editor-in-chief of the magazine “Quantic” Sergey Dorichenko.

In addition to the educational program, a rich cultural program has been prepared for the school participants, including excursions, master classes in making haluzhs, national dances, and acquaintance with the culture of the Adyghe people. The program will also include a lecture by Russian international journalist, Chairman of the Presidium of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy (CFDP) Fyodor Lukyanov “World Politics-2025: Impossible to Predict, Let’s Try to Understand” and a political game “Formula of International Relations: Is It Possible to Derive an Algorithm of Foreign Policy”, in which students will test the effectiveness of mathematical algorithms for describing and modeling international relations.
