The 4th South-Russian Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad ‘Assara’ Opens at Adyghe State University

Fifty schoolgirls from 20 regions of the country, as well as their peers from Abkhazia and Uzbekistan, are participating in the Olympiad, which will be held in Maykop from October 24 to 28.

The South-Russian Mathematical Olympiad “Assara” for girls was established by Adyghe State University to promote Olympiad mathematics and foster friendships among schoolgirls passionate about the subject.

The event is supported by Sberbank and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Adygea. Co-organizers include the Republican School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Polaris-Adygea Regional Educational Center.

The Olympiad will be held in two rounds, with participants solving four problems in each round. Winners will be determined in two age categories: the Junior League (8th grade) and the Senior League (9th and 10th grades).

Leading representatives of the Olympiad movement will evaluate the solutions. The jury will be chaired by Kirill Sukhov, head coach of the Russian team at the International Mathematical Olympiad for Schoolchildren and head of the ASU Scientific Laboratory for Technologies for Teaching Mathematical Ideas.

In addition to the competition, participants will enjoy an extensive cultural program. Meetings will be held with People’s Artist of the Republic of Adygea Meleachet Zekhova and President of the Caucasian Yoga Association, Advisor to the Rector of ASU Zaur Zhane. A master class, “Drawing in the Sand,” will be conducted by Mezagi Tesheva, head of the M.A.R.S. creative studio. Walking tours of Maykop and visits to Adygea’s natural attractions will also be organized. The names of the winners will be announced on October 28 at the closing ceremony.

About the Olympics

The South-Russian Mathematical Olympiad “Assara” for girls was established in 2022 at the initiative of Adyghe State University. The Olympiad is named after the Assara mountain peak in Adygea, the southernmost point of the republic. The main goal of the Olympiad is to empower girls to pursue careers in science.

The first Olympiad was held at the Sirius Educational Center and was timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the statehood of the Republic of Adygea. Since 2023, it has been held annually in Maykop.
