On March 15-20, Maykop hosted III Caucasus Mathematical Olympiad (CMO). There were 91 participants from 15 regions of the South of Russia and four foreign countries.
The goal of the Olympiad is to create a cultural and educational space that unites regions of Southern Russia and countries of the Caucasus region and the Black Sea, to form and strengthen friendships among school children who are interested in Math from Russia and other countries.
The Jury included leading specialists in the Olympiad mathematics, members of the Russian Mathematical Olympiad for school children, former prize and award winners of Russian and international mathematical Olympiads: Daud Kazbekovich Mamiy (Chair of the Jury), Pavel Aleksandrovich Kozhevnikov, Nazar Khangeldiyevich Aghakhanov, Alexander Vladimirovich Antropov, Asker Ferzullaevich Askerov, Dmitry Alekseevich Belov, Andrey Eduardovich Biryuk, Vladimir Alekseevich Bragin, Oleg Yurievich Dmitriev, Lev Alexandrovich Emelyanov, Vadim Donakovich Kryakvin, Yury Vladimirovich Kuzmenko, Natalia Nikolaevna Kuprienko, Ivan Andreyevich Kukharchuk, Andrei Vladimirovich Reznikov, Alexander Nikolaevich Semenov, Arkady Yurievich Skorkin, Vladimir Zlatkovich Sharich.
The Olympiad consisted of two leagues: Junior (8-9th grade) and Senior (10-11 grade) and included two rounds where the participants had to solve 8 problems. The problems were developed by the Problem selection committee which consisted of Russian and foreign mathematicians: Pavel Alexandrovich Kozhevnikov (Chair), Vladimir Alekseevich Bragin, Dmitry Alekseevich Belov, Alexander Vladimirovich Antropov, Lev Alexandrovich Yemelyanov, Alexander Andreevich Polyansky, Morteza Sagafian, Sergey Ivanovich Tokarev.
Apart from the competition, the Olympiad program included the lectures by famous Russian mathematicians Andrei Raigorodsky and Alexei Savvateev. The participants also could discuss math with the Coordination Committee and the Jury, learn about Adyghe culture, and go to the Guam gorge. Every night the participants could join games, guitar concerts, Adyghe dancing, and a discotheque.
The winners in the Junior league were three school students from the Krasnodar region: Semen Panenko, Danila Demin, and Sergey Burkin. The winners of the Senior league were a student from the Astrakhan region Timofei Kovalev and a student from Bulgaria Boris Barbov.
